Give It Up For Sexual Chocolate
By Bob Andersen Times Herald-Record
This affair begins innocently enough with a simple craving for coffee. But a wall of sound seems to blast from The Goshen Gourmet the moment I enter. It's not real music, but the tantalizing tune of temptation. Does food sing to you, or am I the only one who hears this siren's song?
I stand like a schoolboy, mesmerized. A cacophony floats from a chilled display case filled with an ensemble of decadent chocolates, pastries and other extravagances. I need. I want. I don't normally yearn for sweet petite somethings, but, in addition to salads, soups, wraps, sandwiches and coffees, The Goshen Gourmet teases with a remarkable selection of absolutely delectable desserts - all of which include the extra ingredients of class and love.
Clothed in lattices of golden flaky crust, raspberry, apple and peach pies are classic compositions. From the tarts - lemon, peach, apple and glazed fruit - rise precious arias. Posh cheesecake, velvety crème brulée, rich Triple Chocolate Mousse all emit dolce cantatas. Solo movements from cookies, scones and brownies cut warm recognizable chords. The triple-layered carrot cake fuses sweet and spicy into a brilliant chorus. A lone red raspberry purrs luxuriously from within a Chocolate Mousse Cup.
They say chocolate is better than ….
Behind the counter, a young woman speaks. I look up to her smile, but I hear nothing she says. Finally, my daze fades and I succumb to her offer to sample something. My muse, the Chocolate Mousse Cup, pairs a brittle dark chocolate outside with an airy mousse filling. The first bite is cold, the dark chocolate kick dimming as the mousse crescendos. I cleanse my palette with a sip of coffee and savor two more mouthfuls, saving the raspberry for the last bite. Ah yes. That was some pretty awesome chocolate.
